Why Do Dogs Need Treatment?

Dogs are more similar to us than you realise…

While dogs have four legs and fur, their musculoskeletal systems are essentially the same as ours. Dogs have knee joints, hamstrings, quads, elbows, wrists, biceps, low backs, and necks just like us. And just like yours, theirs can break down too.

Dogs can get stiff, sore and injured. They can get low back pain, neck pain, or hip pain. They can also injure their cruciate ligament, or strain a muscle.

But what they can’t do is verbalise that something is hurting. Instead, you may see a change in their behaviour. They may start limping, look stiff when getting up from a nap, be more irritable, struggle to get up / down stairs or in / out of the car.

You’ve probably taken your dog to the Vet who has hopefully ruled out serious injury and can offer medication, advice, and possibly laser therapy / acupuncture. Your dogs Vet is much like your GP, an excellent gatekeeper to assess and diagnose injuries and pain, but somewhat limited in their ability to help you recover and regain your mobility. In this case, “hands on” manual therapy in the form of Osteopathy, Physiotherapy, Chiropractic, Remedial massage, or Acupuncture may help.

But what about your dog? Just like you, they could also benefit from manual therapy. So this is where the Balanced Dog or similar providers come in. We not only treat humans but we’ve also done extra training in the treatment of dogs using manual therapy.

While your dog may not be able to tell us what is going on, we can talk to you, watch them move, assess them, and treat them accordingly.

If you would like to book your dog in for a treatment, don’t hesitate to get in contact.
